Learning to drive Herefordshire, Hereford & Leominster
Before you can to learn to drive on the road you will need a UK provisional licence (or acceptable, valid foreign licence) and be at least 17 years old. If you do not have a provisional licence you can get the forms from a main Post Office and it will take about 7 to 10 days to process. You can apply for your licence a few months before your 17th birthday but it will not become valid until you are 17.
Learning to drive with GT School of Motoring, we tailor your training to suit your requirements, particularly with regards to the speed with which you are able to learn to drive.
Learn to Drive - Your first lesson
On your first driving lesson your instructor will provide you with a GT Appointment Card and Progress Record Card. Your progress towards the goal of driving safely without your instructor having to tell you what to do is clearly recorded for you to see. You can also see how much of the syllabus you have covered, and how much is still to do.
Your instructor will also keep his own records of your achievements and progress and this will be discussed with you at the end of every lesson. Your lessons will be structured to complete the whole test syllabus in a logical, controlled manner. Your instructor will establish with you the level of driving experience that you have and will begin your tuition in an appropriate area.
Beginners You will not be put into a traffic situation that you cannot cope with. If you have never driven before, your instructor will drive you to a 'nursery area' which could be a quiet residential area of virtually no traffic to enable you to get to grips with the controls of the car before having to deal with other traffic.
Some experience Your instructor will establish the level of tuition you need by spending a few minutes assessing your driving, again this will be in light traffic areas.
Test Failure If you have recently failed a test and just need some refresher lessons, your instructor will again assess your driving and continue with fault correction to ensure success next time.
Be assured, your training will be tailored to suit your requirements, everyone is different and learns at a different pace. If you are progressing well the driving instructor will continually move you on to new subjects; if however, you are having difficulty with a particular movement then more time will be dedicated to that area until you have mastered it.
At GT we believe confidence is an essential part of learning to drive so our driving instructors will always look to build your knowledge to suit your ability - at the right pace for you. We are teaching you to drive safely for life, not just to pass a test, that's why we are different to other driving schools.
