LEARNING TO DRIVE: MAKING PROGRESS
Lessons
Our lessons are a full one hour and we recommend that you take your lessons in blocks of 2 hours at a time, if possible. In a two hour lesson the instructor can cover so much more ground as you are only having to recap and 'warm up' once. We find that our pupils learn quicker and pass with fewer lessons if they have two hours at a time.
Your instructor will talk you through each lesson so that you understand what you will be covering in that lesson and how it fits into your overall training schedule, we do not 'drive about a bit until you get the hang of it'. The structure of your lesson will ensure maximum efficiency from your lessons and prepare you for the standard required to pass the test.
Subjects will be covered in a logical order, for example, we will not teach you to go backwards until we are satisfied you have mastered going forwards! This will help build your confidence week to week.
How many lessons will you need?
As all pupils are different and learn at different rates this is a difficult question to answer. The Driving Standards Agency advise that, as a guideline, a pupil may require 1½ hours of tuition for every year of their life ie. a 17 year old beginner would therefore need to be considering about 25 hours. This varies depending on the amount of practise the pupil can do outside of lessons, the consistency of lessons and of course, the aptitude of the pupil.
You will be ready for test when you can truthfully say that you would be confident and competent to drive in any traffic situations in any town without anybody helping you.
